On December 17, 2024 at 12:47pm Vanuatu time, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Port Vila causing significant damage to buildings and infrastructure around the capital. Several buildings collapsed trapping people and resulting in fatalities. Numerous landslides have been reported around the capital and nearby communities on the island of Efate. At the moment, there are 12 confirmed fatalities, over 200 wounded, and approximately 1043 people displaced from their homes. These numbers are expected to increase over time.
Friends of Vanuatu has partnered with the Pacific Island Association for NGOS and the Vanuatu Association of NGOS to identify groups and communities that would benefit from receiving some financial support. This partnership will help to ensure your donation is received and used where it is most needed.
Once the funds have been allocated, we will be posting information and photos on the FOV2 website about how the money was used.
➤ NOTE: As projects are identified, the EARTHQUAKE DISASTER RELIEF FUND may be re-branded to match a specific project project.
